Computerbilities Shares IT Tips to Avoid Healthcare.gov Problems
Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) December 04, 2013 -- IT support company, Computerbilities, is sharing 3 IT tips for businesses looking to avoid the problems healthcare.gov experienced during its initial launch on October 1. After 400 software fixes and hardware upgrades, healthcare.gov now works for “in the zone of 80%” of users, according to the latest Obamacare deadline news on CNN. But according to Computerbilities, critical steps were missed before the initial launch that resulted in only 30% of users able to navigate the entire site weeks ago.
According to information technology experts who examined the healthcare.gov website at the request of The Wall Street Journal, the website appeared to be built on a “sloppy software foundation,” and such a hastily constructed website may not have been able to withstand the online demand when it launched on October 1.
“This had previously happened with another government website, Sam.gov, a US Federal Contractor website,” says Adam Pittman, founder of Computerbilites, Inc. “It was unrealistically expected that the website could be functional within the first day of launch for 300+ million people. The website should have been launched in phases over a period of time to allow the website developers to address problems as they arose and strengthen the site piece- by-piece.”
To avoid a similar failure, businesses can follow the suggested IT tips provided by Computerbilities:
• Set realistic expectations regarding time-line for launch as well as potential issues.
• Take the time to sufficiently test and trouble-shoot the website before its debut.
• Launching in phases is key in order to correct any final software glitches.
A CNN healthcare report stated that the website had failed testing before roll out. Tests also revealed six security concerns, two of which were classified as high-priority problems. Some of the initial problems included long waiting times and the inability to upload information rendering the site inaccessible to citizens.
“In complex projects where changes are expected and testing shows flaws, deadlines should be managed appropriately. It is unreasonable to expect otherwise,” says Pittman.
