African-American Culture Aims for Positive Change in New Fiction

Okwuonu’s book has for its main theme the behavioral power of positive change and for its concept the “promotion of love, good relationship and productivity, as well as facilitating the improvement in the America’s economy.”
“I was inspired by the black children’s display of fear and anger, watching an old movie showing a young black man being castigated severely by a white man,” Okwuonu reveals about the genesis of his book. “This book intends to help these black children and their white and black friends learn that the power of love will always transcend above the love for power.”
At the outset, this book makes its intention very clear: to promote the power of positive change and good relationship among black and white teenagers in America. It accomplishes this through the following main characters: Johnson, his mother Nicole, his Great Uncle Jo, his friend Dr. Paul—an old white man whom he also called Uncle Paul. The characters’ significance is that they were the sources of information for his story.
Set in Edmond, Okla., this book is an imaginary fiction which tells the stirring story about the impact of the stripping away of the African-American culture on Johnson growing up in America. Johnson traveled and regained his originality in Africa and came back to America, graduated in law, married a white lady, and later ran and was elected city mayor.
“This is Johnson’s contribution to the current almost 500 years old discussion of race (blacks and whites) in America,” says Okwuonu. “This is apparently the first time that the stripping away of the African-American culture is blamed as the cause of the failures of Johnson and many like him in his ethnic group, Johnson believes that because the African-American historic experience is exceptional in the world, it needed and received an extraordinary treatment.”

He obtained his education from the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, the University of Oklahoma in Norman, both in the State of Oklahoma, and currently working on a doctoral program in Psychology at the University of the Rockies Colorado Spring, Colo.
