Iniobong Obong’s new novel draws inspiration from ancient miracle
LEICESTER, England (PRWEB) November 14, 2014 -- In John 5, the Bible tells the story of a paralytic man seeking healing. When Jesus encounters him, he heals the man to reward his faith in God. Author Iniobong Obong believes he can extract modern truths from this biblical narrative. Obong’s new Christian book, “From Paralympics to Olympics Glory: The Unfriendly Road to Freedom” (published by iUniverse), gleans lessons from the paralytic’s faith in God.
The fifth chapter of John finds Jesus visiting the pool of Bethesda in Jerusalem in a setting Obong says “is similar to the modern Paralympics where participants compete for a medal.” Many diseased and injured people are gathered around a small pool, waiting to be healed. Jesus notices a man who has been paralyzed for 38 years. After talking to the man, Jesus tells him to “take up thy bed and walk,” according to the King James Version of the Bible. The man is healed and is able to walk away.
This is the central vein from which Obong draws lessons for the modern Christian. He states that the pool at Bethesda was a “dress rehearsal for the pool in heaven,” and the paralytic represents anyone on a journey who is willing to compete against all odds.
“‘From Paralympics to Olympics Glory’ is a compass to life’s travelers on a road filled with deception, despair and uncharted elements to the river of God’s life,” Obong says. “It presents the redemption story using contemporary concepts and language.”
Obong hopes his book will help believers as they continue to work toward being more Christ-like. He says his education in electronic engineering allows him to draw analogies to prayer, which he views as a form of “wireless communication.” Through his commentary, Obong believes he can bring the story of an ancient miracle to the hearts of modern believers and also to those trapped in the vast and rudderless ocean of depravity but desperately looking for a way of escape.
