While reports of a child’s death are tragic enough, the realization that such a death could have been prevented is even worse. Disturbed by this thought, an inventor from Newport News, Va., has taken a proactive approach to insure that no child dies from being left in a locked car.
He developed the patent-pending BABYCHECK to alert a driver to disengage rear seat belts when car is in park. An alarm sounds if the alert is ignored when trying to achieve security when the engine is shut off. As such, it ensures that no parent or caregiver overlooks a sleeping child in the back seat. Thus, it has the potential to prevent injuries and save lives. It, therefore, reduces hospital and medical expenses for treatment of children in such situations.
In general, it improves child safety in automobiles. At the same time, it aids in keeping automobiles burglar proof. It is also equally effective to insure that sleeping pets are not left in locked cars. In other words, it affords peace of mind for busy parents and pet owners.
The inventor’s personal commitment inspired the idea. “I was determined to help safeguard children and pets against serious injury or death from being inadvertently left in the back seat when the car is turned off,” he said. “Not only will this invention prevent that from happening, but it will also provide a burglar-proof system for the vehicle and its contents. With BABYCHECK installed it ensures that you'll never leave your groceries or a pet, but, most of all, your precious baby, in the back seat."
