Based in Pittsburgh, Pa., InventHelp is working to submit the Bedside Tubing Stabilizer to companies for their review.

."On a daily basis, intensive care unit (ICU) nurses deal with an incredible number of IV tubings and various monitoring cables," said one of two inventors from Bellflower, Calif. "As a result, a patient's bedside has become a festivity of assorted tubings and cables. Nurses are faced with the constant problem of juggling these various tubings in between patient care. Sometimes lines are lost (i.e., pulled out) from patients' IV sites during patient-care activities, such as scheduled position changes and hygienic care. Not only does the loss of lines pose more work for nurses and other healthcare providers, it also puts patients at risk for harm, such as bleeding depending on the invasiveness of the applicable line. This proposal is being made as an effort to promote patient safety and employee satisfaction."

They developed the patent-pending Bedside Tubing Stabilizer to firmly secure IV tubing and monitoring cables in position. The unit keeps tubing and cables within easy sight and reach. The design enables medical staff to adjust the amount of slack in tubing and cables while patient-care activities are being carried out. The device safeguards IV tubing and cables at the patient's bedside, thereby promoting patient safety. It eliminates the need to secure tubing and cables with medicine cups and adhesive tape or other materials. Furthermore, the invention contributes to safe, timely and cost-effective nursing care.

The original design was submitted to the Orange County office of InventHelp. It is currently available for licensing or sale to manufacturers or marketers.
