InventHelp, based in Pittsburgh, is submitting the HEADS UP TACKLING SLED to companies for their review.

"In order to avoid injuries, football players need to be taught how to tackle with proper form, and in order to do this, they must practice regularly," said an inventor from Schenectady, N.Y. "Most tackling sleds are not effective at teaching players appropriate body positioning, which is why I came up with a better model that forces proper fit and technique, as well as instant feedback in regard to technique."

He developed the patent-pending HEADS UP TACKLING SLED to teach players to tackle using safe, solid technique. The sled enables players to maintain proper shoulder/spinal alignment and foot positioning when making contact with the unit. It encourages players to keep their heads up while tackling. This promotes appropriate spinal alignment upon contact, which reduces the risk of injuries such as concussion. All of this is designed to enhance personal safety. Furthermore, the sled allows for full-speed drill work, making for a more efficient use of practice time.

The original design was submitted to the Houston office of InventHelp. It is currently available for licensing or sale to manufacturers or marketers.
