"I have worked in the nursing profession for over 38 years," said an inventor from Fort Wayne, Ind. "I wanted to put my professional knowledge to work in helping my mother, who is in pain and overweight. I thought that it would be helpful if she had a way to walk in water to lessen her weight and thereby reduce strain. However, water is a source of possible infection, so it cannot be used by all patients. This inspired me to develop a way to simulate the weightlessness of water for use in therapy and rehabilitation."
She developed the P.B.R.T.D. to simulate the weightlessness of being underwater without the risk of infection water poses. It offers a safer, more effective means of rehabilitation. The device enables the patient to walk without putting excessive stress and strain on an injured or repaired joint. It is designed to prevent further injury. It also speeds up the recovery process. Furthermore, the system easily adjusts to accommodate patient needs.
