Police Chief Jay Varney Supports Fresno Police Chaplaincy In Fundraising 5k/10k
Fresno, CA (PRWEB) December 05, 2013 -- The "Leg-Bail Through the Park" 5K and 10K race was billed as a non-competitive run in which registered runners could join the Fresno Police Department running team, jokingly stating that participants would have the opportunity to "Run with us, not from us." Members of other law enforcement agencies were also invited to attend.
The race was organized for the FPOA and supported by Police Chief Jay Varney, who deemed the event a success, saying, "Officers always enjoy the opportunity to raise funds for our community programs by hosting events such as this, where they can run side by side with members of the community with a common goal in mind. It is a great idea, and in my estimation, it was run very well by the organizers."
The event was held at Woodward Park, and the FPOA invited all runners to attend a pancake and egg breakfast after the run had been completed.
The Fresno Police Chaplaincy has been operating in Fresno since 1981, working as a support service to members of the police community and the community at large. In describing their role in the community, the Chaplaincy has stated on their website, "In community we assume the role of a Spiritual Triage Unit. Our Chaplains respond to calls for service 365 days a year; chaplains provide immediate care and comfort to our citizens along with follow up, in an attempt to make connections to local resources."
The FPOA athletics program, which also benefited from this fundraiser, offers a number of athletic opportunities to a broad range of community members in the Fresno area.
"We feel that both of these programs are very important to the area, and we are very grateful that the community joined us and offered their support" said Police Chief Jay Varney. "We always look forward to events like these, and it is our hope that the community will continue to value what we do by supporting our endeavors."
