Industry Analyst Jeff Kagan on Windstream, Broadband is 2nd Fastest Growing Revenue Stream
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) September 29, 2013 -- Windstream is transforming into an enterprise focused service provider, however its consumer broadband business remains it’s second fastest growing revenue stream, according to FierceTelecom, Sept 25.
Tech analyst Jeff Kagan offers comment.
“Windstream is one of the largest competitors in telecom. They may not be in wireless, but they are becoming a heavy hitter on the wire line side of the business with broadband after AT&T, Verizon, and CenturyLink.” Says Principal analyst Jeff Kagan.
“A couple years ago I was invited to speak at their board of directors meeting. I discussed much of what I thought they were doing right and made some suggestions for areas they need to improve. Over the last several years their performance has been very good.” Says Kagan.
“At that time Windstream was in the beginning of their journey to becoming a business focused company. I told them that while that made sense, there were two other areas they should pay close attention to growin as well.” Says Kagan.
“One was wireless. They have still not ventured into this area, however they may have been right. In the last few years it has become more clear that even though wireless is a rapidly growing business, and important for every company, succeeding as a wireless competitor is much more difficult than most imagine. Just ask companies like Comcast, Time Warner, Cox and even CenturyLink who have tried and not succeeded. Much more difficult indeed.” Says Kagan.
“Two was consumer. Even though the company was rapidly growing in the business market, I advised they should not turn their back on the consumer marketplace. That comment to Windstream was dead on. In fact consumer broadband continues to grow and is more important to them each year. It is their second fastest growing revenue source.” Says Kagan.
Windstream has 71 percent of its access lines with broadband, which provides speeds of 12 and 20 Mbps. They serve mostly rural communities. Sixty three percent of their customers get 6 Mbps or faster.
“So congratulations to CEO Jeff Gardner and Windstream on this level of success. It is successfully raising your revenue and profitability.” Says Kagan.
