Industry Analyst Jeff Kagan: Will AT&T GigaPower Beat Google Fiber?
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) December 05, 2014 -- In a head to head fiber optic network war, AT&T GigaPower can destroy Google Fiber, says Issa Asad who is a social media and telecom expert. This was Dec 5.
Industry analyst Jeff Kagan offers comment.
“I agree. If you pull the camera back, AT&T GigaPower does look like it’s growing more quickly than Google Fiber. Over many years in this space, AT&T has developed great quality, customer service and relationships with customers which gives them an advantage over Google Fiber as they rapidly grow through this ultra-fast Internet space.” Says Telecom Analyst Jeff Kagan.
“Is this a business that Google will continue in or will they drop out when all competitors step up to the plate? That’s the question I have had all along. I still don’t have an answer. Today in fact, there may be no answer yet.” Says Wireless Analyst Kagan.
Google Fiber is a new service in an expanding marketplace. If Google decides to stay in this segment, they can eventually learn the same things about keeping customers happy that other service providers like AT&T, Verizon and CenturyLink have already learned over many years.
“Google may be a heavy hitter and a very successful company, but don’t think that every market they enter is a big success. It’s not. Google is successful in many segments, but unsuccessful in other segments where they just pull out. Google throws ideas against the wall all the time. Whatever sticks, they build. Whatever falls, they walk away from. That’s the Google strategy. I love this strategy.” Says Tech Analyst Kagan.
However that does mean they are not perfect. And that does mean they can lose. And this long term battle against premier service providers like AT&T, Verizon, CenturyLink, Comcast, Time Warner Cable and Cox.
Right now AT&T GigaPower and Google Fiber are the two largest and most aggressive competitors in this ultra-fast broadband space. Over time the hope is every other competitor will jump in as well. Something that has not really happened yet in any meaningful way.
Google started in Kansas City marketplace. AT&T started in the Austin, Fort Worth and Dallas marketplaces. Both have discussed moving into other markets, but AT&T GigaPower seems to be much more aggressive with a much longer list of markets from coast to coast. Google has not.
In addition, AT&T GigaPower Internet that downloads and uploades at speeds up to one gigabit per second. This is for many devices including computers, tablets and smartphones.
What this means is that as of today, AT&T GigaPower offers the fastest connections in the more cities with a large list of cities to come.
“The good news is this speed is what AT&T U-verse and GigaPower services seems to have in the cards for market after market across the country.” Says Technology Analyst Kagan.
