Tech Analyst Jeff Kagan on Nokia Buying Nokia Siemens Joint Venture
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) July 01, 2013 -- Nokia has agreed to buy the Siemens half of their telecommunications equipment joint venture according to the New York Times, June 30.

The Nokia and Siemens joint venture is now over. Nokia has paid Siemens for ownership as it continues to struggle with it’s own challenges in the wireless handset business.
“This will be very helpful to Nokia as it sorts through opportunities in the changing marketplace,” says Telecommunications analyst Jeff Kagan.
What happens next? Does Nokia sell the company? Perhaps according to Nokia CEO Stephen A. Elop.
“The Nokia wireless handset business has been struggling over the last few years,” says Telecom analyst Jeff Kagan.
Nokia used to be the number one handset maker, but then the smartphone wave started and now the leaders are Apple iPhone, Google Android and Samsung with their Galaxy devices.
“The question being asked is what is the future for Nokia? Will it continue as a stand-alone company or will it be acquired. This deal does not answer that question, but it does financially strengthen the company, at least for the short-term,” says Principal analyst Jeff Kagan.
“I get the sense that this is just the beginning of a wave of changes that Nokia will go through. If they can start to succeed again in the smartphone business things could settle down, but without that I think we are going to see Nokia change,” says Kagan.
