New Book by John Anselm Offers Transcendental Motifs
Altamonte Springs, FL (PRWEB) April 09, 2014 -- Author John Anselm echoes Henry David Thoreau and Ralph Waldo Emerson in his transcendental new novel, “The Motive of Mayhem: Secrets of the Quince, The Forgotten Fruit” (published by Trafford Publishing).
Set in 1919 South Carolina, “The Motive of Mayhem” weaves a tale of romance, action and adventure. After a terrible family tragedy, Barker Cunningham leaves Charleston, S.C. for a quince plantation in Appalachia where he meets Polly, a beautiful young heiress who steals Barker’s heart. She introduces him to Gunter, an elderly half-Cherokee sage who teaches Barker about the power of nature and being a truly free spirit.
When Barker returns to Charleston, tragedy strikes once more. Barker must utilize the sage’s teachings in order to rid himself of society’s constraints and live in peace.
“Ultimately, this presents the perspective of the big picture, the out-of-the-box reality,” says Anselm. “It bares the dangers of one becoming excessively social and therefore overly competitive with nefarious results, leading to mayhem and war.”
An excerpt from “The Moment of Mayhem”:
“In his idyllic imagination, his hands caressed no more than delirium. The daydream was over. Oh, I can’t stand it. Barker sprinted through the canopy, his expectations rising. But at the end of the walkway, he did not spot a spring. Walking in a wide circle, he assiduously searched. No water. Was this the wrong place?”
