Stephen B. Rubin, retired after serving as both a New Jersey Superior Court Judge and the Hunterdon County Prosecutor, became Of Counsel to The Rotolo Law Firm, Lebanon, NJ, effective February 2, 2015. Judge Rubin will focus primarily on alternative dispute resolution, including mediation and arbitration, offering the Firm’s clients the opportunity to resolve their legal matters outside of traditional litigation.
Judge Rubin served as Superior Court Judge beginning in 2002. During his tenure on the bench, Judge Rubin served in every Superior Court division, including family, civil, probate and criminal, and was responsible for the resolution of thousands of cases.
About his new appointment Judge Rubin commented, “I look forward to my association with The Rotolo Law Firm and this next phase of my career. In this new capacity, I will be able to provide The Rotolo Law Firm’s clients with alternative means for resolving their legal issues and get back to the practice of law in all other respects.”
Judge Rubin brings over 45 years’ experience to The Rotolo Law Firm. Prior to his appointment to the bench, a position he held from 2002 through his retirement this year, Judge Rubin served as Hunterdon County Prosecutor from 1997 through 2002. Before that, he was in private practice for 27 years in Flemington, NJ.
A 1966 graduate of Rutgers University, Judge Rubin received his law degree from Seton Hall University School of Law in 1969, after which he served as law clerk to the Hon. Thomas J. Beetel, J.S.C. before opening his own practice.
Judge Rubin has also held a number of other positions throughout his career, including Assistant and First Assistant Prosecutor for Hunterdon County; Special Deputy Attorney General; Prosecutor for the municipalities of Flemington, Alpha, Union and Raritan; attorney for the Board of Health of the Township of Raritan; township attorney for Delaware Township; and attorney for the Planning Boards of both Bloomsbury and Holland Townships.
A member of both the New Jersey State Bar Association and the Hunterdon County Bar Association since 1969, Judge Rubin has also served as State President of the County Prosecutors Association of New Jersey; State Commissioner of the Child Life Protection Commission; and Chairman of the Civil Procedure Section of the Hunterdon County Dispute Resolution Program. In addition, Judge Rubin served as a member on the following: the State of New Jersey Parole Advisory Board; New Jersey Supreme Court Family Law Practice Committee; New Jersey Supreme Court Criminal Rules of Evidence Committee; New Jersey Supreme Court Fee Arbitration Committee, District XIII; New Jersey Supreme Court Ethics Committee, District XIII; and the New Jersey Municipal Prosecutors Association.
Judge Rubin’s active community involvement includes serving as past President of the Flemington Lions Club and the Flemington Jewish Community Center; Chairman of the Hunterdon County Israel Bond Drive; and Trustee of the Hunterdon County Central High School Foundation. Judge Rubin and his wife, Susan, have five sons and two grandchildren.
