Novelist Kaye Dion, LVN, explores the horror of pedophilia and the redemptive qualities of organ donation in her new novel “Twist of Fate” (published by AuthorHouse).
Jessie is a troubled young man, suffering from both schizophrenia and pedophilia. In a horrible series of events, he succumbs to his illnesses and assault a 5-year-old girl, Tiffany, killing her. He is apprehended and sentence to death by lethal injection.
While in prison, Jessie begins to repent while speaking to the prison psychologist, Chaplain Ross, as seen in this excerpt from “Twist of Fate”:
“Jessie began to recall the killing scene. Tiny beads of sweat glistened on his forehead. He seemed to be in rapture, in another place and time. Chaplain Ross sat passively, listening as Jessie relieved the gruesome experience. Chaplain Ross’s stoic expression never changed. He had heard it all before from other inmates.
‘You know, in my brief life, the sins I’ve committed, along the way, I’ve learned that life is not about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about dancing in the rain. I’m cold.’”
After his death, Jessie’s organs are donated to help others live, including his sister, Irene, who receives his liver to help her overcome hepatitis.
