“A lot of plastic surgeons see a spike in December, due to patients wanting to look their best for holiday parties and New Year’s Eve, and use the time off from work between Christmas and New Year’s to recover,” said Dr. O’Neil, a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery. “Additionally, many people wait until the end of the year to make the most of their health-care insurance deductible.”
Some of the more popular end-of-the-year treatments include laser resurfacing, chemical peels, botox and injectable fillers, of which the latter two are specialties of Dr. O’Neil. Botox, adds Dr. O’Neil, takes three to five days to take effect, and should be repeated as soon as the muscle movement is noted for maximum benefit.
“Botox will usually last longer with each subsequent treatment up to about six months,” said Dr. O’Neil. “As for injectable fillers, after the procedure, your rejuvenated appearance will be visible immediately.”
Injectable fillers, also known as dermal fillers, safely restore a naturally youthful appearance to the face and/or hands. These minimally invasive treatments add volume and fullness to the skin to improve signs of aging, such as wrinkles, fine lines, recessed scars, shallow contours (hollows), skin creases and thin lips.
“Recovery time varies with each treatment, but December is the best time of year to get these and any other treatments done, and come spring and summer you’ll be completely healed,” said Dr. O’Neil. “Additionally, if you come in to O’Neil Skin and Lipo Medical Center in December, part of your payment will be donated to Riverside City Mission, so you will not only feel good about yourself but will be supporting a worthy cause.”
Partnering with local churches, Riverside City Mission provides hot meals and sack lunches for poor families and the homeless three days a week in various locations throughout Riverside. In addition, the Mission sponsors special holiday community outreach meals for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. Last year, Riverside City Mission provided 118,100 hot meals, sack lunches and food-box meals for the hungry.
