KualiCo Acquires rSmart SaaS Business and Expands Team to Drive Development and Adoption of Cloud-Based Products for Higher Ed Administration
Salt Lake City, UT (PRWEB) October 14, 2014 -- KualiCo, the newly formed company focused on the delivery of open source administrative solutions for higher education, announced today the acquisition of rSmart’s software as a service (SaaS) business. A team of employees, including rSmart co-founder and CEO Chris Coppola, will join KualiCo to accelerate sales, marketing, operations, and product development activities. The specific terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.
Following a series of community meetings, the Kuali Foundation announced in August 2014 a shift in the community’s model and the addition of a new commercial entity, led by CEO Joel Dehlin, to drive the adoption and development of beautifully designed, open source, cloud-based software. Dehlin most recently served as the Chief Technology and Product Officer for Instructure, the maker of the Canvas LMS.
Since the announcement, KualiCo has been meeting with higher ed leadership to understand their desires for the development and support of Kuali products. Today, more than 140 institutions are using Kuali products to manage finance, research administration, business continuity, student services, and libraries.
“There is a growing number of colleges and universities, including Kuali adopters, that are exploring cloud-based administrative solutions. With the rSmart SaaS acquisition and our team of engineers, we now have the expertise, products, and customers to quickly move forward with KualiCo’s mission,” explained Dehlin.
For more than ten years, rSmart has been a leader in the Kuali community and has built a strong SaaS business around Kuali Finance and Research (Coeus) products. Customers utilizing these services will transition to KualiCo.
“Institutions are eager to move from aging legacy systems running in campus data centers to modern, cloud-based products. Trust will be one of the most important aspects of this transition. KualiCo, a company created by and for higher education, will answer this need. And, rSmart provides it with a running start.” said Coppola.
KualiCo offers cloud-based research management, finance, student administration, and business continuity products designed to help higher education institutions improve efficiencies and reduce costs. To learn more about KualiCo, visit http://www.kuali.co.
