Los Angeles School of Gymnastics (LASG) is excited to present the annual LA Lights Rhythmic Gymnastics Tournament of Champions, taking place January 23-26, 2014 at Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Culver City, CA. Hundreds of participants come from all levels and from as many as 30 countries around the globe. The registration deadline for the event is November 13, 2013, with a late fee of $40 applied per application after the deadline. More information and the registration forms can be found at http://lalightsmeet.com/.
The event features rhythmic gymnastics, known as one of the most visually stunning sports in the Olympic Games. The participants in LA Lights are young women and girls combining elements of gymnastics, theatrical dance, ballet and apparatus manipulation, including ribbon, ball, club, hoop or rope. Judges are evaluating the performances based on the participant’s leaps, balances, flexibility, pivots, artistic effect and apparatus handling. The international competitions are split between juniors under the age of 16 and seniors over the age of 16.
“This event serves as a major tournament in the route for the Olympic Games,” said Tanya Berenson, Meet Manager and General Manager of LASG. “Rhythmic gymnastics is getting more and more popular each year, and we are excited to lead the charge with this extremely popular event. It is inspiring to know that some of the girls performing at this event may one day be performing during the Olympic or World Games.”
An Olympic-quality training center, the LA School of Gymnastics has been working with young athletes since 1975. LASG Executive Director Alla Svirsky, a four-time USA Olympic coach and a USA Gymnastics Inductee to the Hall of Fame, pioneered rhythmic gymnastics in the United States and was the first Olympic Coach for the sport when it was introduced during the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
The event takes place January 23 – 26, 2014 at Veterans Memorial Auditorium, located at 4117 Overland Avenue in Culver City, CA 90230.
