With the boat show in full swing, LMC Marine Center returns to Houston’s premier boating event, the 2016 Houston Boat Sport & Travel Show, where LMC is presenting an eye-catching display of new boats. The boat show is being held at the NRG Center in Houston, January 8 thru 17. Before visiting the boat show, here are three things you must know to help you save money while shopping for a new boat.

1. Competition leads to lower pricing. It's the only time of the year (other than the summer show which is smaller) that we are literally right next to our competitors and a buyer can go from dealer to dealer and back again seeing different models, features and prices. In two or three hours you can do what could take weeks any other time.

2. Farmers market mentality rules at the show. The dealers all know they will sell a huge volume of boats in a very short period of time and as such they can price their boats lower during that period. Volume = lower prices. It's as if you walked into a dealership and said, "I will take 50 boats right now if you give me a better price." Of course you are going to get a better price! That is exactly how a dealer sees the show. Lots of sales at once.

3. Manufacturer support. It really is the only time of the year that almost every dealer gets extra dollars from the manufacturers of the boat brands they carry. Either in the form of back end dealer incentives or retail customer rebates. Either way, it translates into additional savings to the consumer. Why is this the case? Because the manufacturers know that if their dealers move a lot of inventory in January, they will order more boats. If they don't move inventory, they will order a smaller amount for that upcoming model year, or not at all.

Greater competition, volume selling and manufacturer support. These three things added together definitely make buying a boat at the show a great opportunity for a consumer to save.

If buying a boat makes sense for you in the near term, then without a doubt, there is never a better time to do so then at the January boat show.
