EJL Wireless Research Reports Global BTS Antenna Shipments Decreased 0.9% in 2013
Salem, NH (PRWEB) October 15, 2014 -- The global BTS antenna shipments decreased by 0.9 % in 2013, according to the latest report from EJL Wireless Research titled “Global BTS Antenna Market Analysis and Forecast, 2013-2018 6th Edition.” “The slight decrease in 2013 was due to the multi-band upgrades in North America and in Western Europe as a result of LTE network launches with strong shipments in China offsetting weakness in other regions. The market continues to shift away from single band sectorized panel antennas to multi-band antennas. As a result, multi-band antennas were 62% of the overall mix in 2013, compared with 47% in 2012,” says founder and President, Earl Lum. EJL Wireless Research is forecasting that the BTS antenna market will experience a strong growth trend from 2014-2015 as demand from China continues to drive shipments for both FDD and TDD antennas.
Multi-band BTS antennas grew 32% year over year and are expected to increase to 89% of the total panel antenna market by 2018 as mobile operator demands for reducing site costs are driving the adoption of this technology. We estimate that the Tier 1 BTS antenna suppliers controlled 59% of total BTS antenna shipments in 2013, up from 42% in 2012. We have upgraded Huawei Technologies as a Tier 1 BTS antenna supplier due to the surge in unit shipments and their position now in the market share rankings.
Total revenues including passive and semi-active antennas reached USD $2.5 billion in 2013, up 11% from 2012 levels. We forecast antenna revenues to increase by 69% in 2014 to over USD $4 billion.“We are reporting initial shipments of penta band (10 port) antennas in 2013 and anticipate shipments of hexa band (12 port) antennas beginning in 2014” says Lum.
“China was the largest BTS antenna market in 2013 with 29% share as China Mobile's TDD-LTE deployment drove substantial shipments of both single band and dual band TTD LTE antennas. We expect this to continue through 2015,” says Lum.
The report provides a unique perspective on the global shipments and demand for BTS antennas covering all frequency bands from 450MHz to 2600MHz and the following standards: GSM/EDGE, W-CDMA/HSPA, CDMA2000, TD-SCDMA and FDD/TDD LTE.
