This book is comprised of Ed’s many letters to his old sweetheart when he was still a young medical student. It shows him studying medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch and writing was second nature to him. He enjoyed the luxury of living on the Gulf Coast and spent many an afternoon swimming and fishing. Several days a week dove and quail hunting on Bolivar Peninsula were not out of the ordinary for him. Sailing with his fraternity brothers was the usual Sunday afternoon outing.
Ed was fond of a lady friend that came from Wortham. She always welcomed his company and he spoke of visiting Wanda on his rail trips to call on his mom in Dallas. His mother always enjoyed his visits. He wrote Wanda letters, described his activities and seemed to long for the day they could rendezvous. Their lives were busy and full of activity which made it almost impossible. The book reveals the letters he wrote to her.
This engrossing read shows readers the difference between today’s mode of communication such as texting and e-mail which, although may be more efficient and faster, is considered by the author as impersonal compared to letter writing.
