Author Louise Richie Kunkle’s romance-mystery novel “Apples and Ice: The Michigan Mystery” (published by Trafford Publishing) has been newly selected for inclusion in the Trafford Publishing Gold Seal program, which recognizes excellence in writing and overall potential.

The book’s protagonist, Linda Farnsworth, has lived in emotional numbness for the past five years while operating her family’s apple orchard and tree farm. The mysterious and untimely death of her fiancé is followed more recently by the loss of her brother and his wife in a house fire, which also leaves Linda’s nephew orphaned and confined to a wheelchair. She doubts that God could ever bring something good out of these miserable events.

When Linda hires a mysterious ex-spy to be her nephew’s therapy companion, a small spark of romantic feelings is lit within her, only to be quickly doused when she sees him with another woman and discovers he is making secret telephone calls. Despite setbacks, hope attempts to triumph over tragedy and sorrow in Kunkle’s debut novel.

Praise for “Apples and Ice”:

“The 234-page paperback book is an engrossing read. (…) Well-plotted with believable characters … the author cleverly pulls off a coup.”

—Donna Ford, The US Review of Books
