Apologist Frank Turek to Speak in Louisville, June 6 -7 at Louisville Bible College Conference on Theology and Apologetics
Louisville, KY (PRWEB) May 19, 2014 -- In an effort to create awareness and dialogue about faith and culture, Louisville Bible College is launching a speaking event with a title named after the Latin term for "truth" (veritas): “VERITAS: A Symposium on Theology and Apologetics.” The event will take place on June 6 – 7 at Okolona Christian Church in Louisville, Kentucky. The featured speaker will be renowned apologist Dr. Frank Turek, author of "I Don’t Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist." Also speaking will be Dr. Ted Cabal of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary who is the editor of the "Apologetics Study Bible" and Dr. Jack Cottrell of Cincinnati Christian University who authored a systematic theology book entitled "The Faith Once for All." Registration is online at veritas.myLBC.edu. “We are really working to bring attention to theology and apologetics while training people to know and defend the Truth,” commented the college’s President, Dr. Tracy Marx.
Alongside the symposium, the College has decided to include more theology and classes in apologetics in all its degree programs. Vice President of Academics, Peter Rasor, Ph.D., sums up the change this way: “Louisville Bible College recognizes the challenges that culture brings to the idea of truth. That’s why emphasizing theology and apologetics in every degree program, equipping students with Truth—that which is true for everyone, everywhere, for all times—is important. It is absolutely necessary for students to be equipped with the Truth and how to defend it—no matter what area of ministry they are called to lead in.”
The change in focus is also in response to the recent surge in interest in theology and apologetics among many Christians. “With national speakers like Frank Turek and William Lane Craig as well as movies like ‘God’s Not Dead’ bringing more attention to apologetics and the defense of the faith, it makes sense to get ahead of the curve and equip all students with it. It is one thing to teach the facts within Scripture and quite another to expand upon knowing why you believe what you believe and prepare students to defend it,” states Rasor. "This is an essential tool in our current culture."
Louisville Bible College is a private non-denominational Christian college, catering to students who have family responsibilities, busy lives, full-time employment, ministry careers, or who are transitioning to vocational ministry. The College has degree programs focusing on theology, apologetics, ministry, and Bible. It has been educating preachers and other Christian leaders for 65 years and is the pre-eminent theology and apologetics institute of higher learning in the Greater Louisville Metropolitan area.
