“The event, which attracted approximately 200 politically active Denverites, was open to all and there was complimentary food and drink,” said Hayden Meier, owner of Epernay, which in 2014 was named National Lounge of the Year. “This was a non-partisan event and a great opportunity to see a spirited debate and politics in action.”
According to an October 16, 2015, U.S. News & World Report article, the October 28 debate was to be capped at two hours, including closing statements from the candidates. The previous debate, on CNN, lasted three hours with commercial breaks, a duration that caused some of the candidates to complain.
“Despite its shortened duration, this debate was lively and an excellent opportunity for the politically minded to come down to Epernay and be a part of, while having a good time in a relaxing atmosphere,” said Meier. “Guests enjoyed libations and delectable apps from Epernay’s talented executive chef, Ariel Bilyeu, while watching the debate on our three flat-screen TVs and 121-inch projector. Guests also had the opportunity to vote for their favorite candidate, and there was a lot of discussion about Ben Carson, who is currently the GOP front runner.”
