Palmetto Bay, FL (PRWEB) January 17, 2014 -- The 2010 ordination of Margaret Lee in Quincy, Ill. marked the last holdout against female clergy in the Episcopal Church; all 110 dioceses have ordained women as clergy. This milestone was certainly influenced by the first women to brave discrimination and custom to take the cloth, such as author Marta Weeks. Her new memoir, “Our Lord was Baptized, You Know: Reflections on a Spiritual Journey” (published by iUniverse) offers a close glimpse of her battle for ordination.
There are still pockets within the church, of course, where some bishops refuse to ordain women. And it’s taken a long time for women in general to become full rectors and bishops. But considering the many years of heavy handed patriarchy in most churches, the Episcopal Church has come a long way. Not the leaders in the field by any means, still Anglican/Episcopalians are light years ahead of the Roman Catholics.
“Our Lord was Baptized, You Know” is not just the story of Weeks’ ordination. It’s a memoir of her entire life, capturing her travel-filled early years between the United States and South America. Her parents’ lives were never easy, but they were filled with love, and this upbringing prepared her to accept God’s will for her life.
Weeks believes this book will appeal to those who would like to know more about the church, and what her particular experience had been in becoming a priest. Far from being a polemic rant against a single church or issue, it is rather an uplifting history of success and determination.
