Stafford Signs With Lions: 2013 Lions Tickets are Available Now at www.Lions-Tickets.net, Powered by InsideTrackTickets.com
Detroit, Michigan (PRWEB) July 12, 2013 -- Quarterbacks Joe Flacco and Aaron Rodgers set the bar high this offseason with monster contract extensions. Now it is Detroit Lions’ quarterback Matthew Stafford’s turn. It was announced Wednesday morning that Stafford signed an extension through 2017. The deal helps the club by making room in the salary cap, and Stafford was happy to help. Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo and Matthew Stafford both share the same agent, and with this new deal will both be making $18 million a year. Stafford will receive $41.5 million guaranteed, plus a $27.5 million signing bonus. The deal has not come as a shock to many, as the talks and negotiations between Stafford and the team have been occurring for a while. The new deal will save the Lions’ salary cap money for the next two years.
The 25-year-old quarterback played in only 13 games over his first two seasons, due to injuries. However, he flourished greatly in 2011, with 41 touchdown passes. He completed 64 percent of his attempts and threw 16 interceptions while leading his team to the playoffs. Last year in 2012, the Lions did not succeed as much as in other years. They had a 4-12 record while Stafford’s passing percentage dropped, as well as his touchdown passes. He threw one more interception in 2012 than in the year before. The coaching staff knows that Stafford is not happy with his performance from last season, and that he is ready for a comeback year in 2013. He has spent much of his offseason rehabbing and working out. To be a fan at the game and watch Stafford get back his winning season, visit http://www.Lions-Tickets.net.
