McGrath Acura of Downtown Chicago Earns "Green Ribbon Award"

McGrath Acura of Downtown Chicago along with Terra Consulting Group LTD exceeded these expectations during a recent redevelopment project, which earned them the Green Ribbon Award. The redevelopment of the McGrath Chicago site transformed an isolated industrial space with limited public accessibility into an open, aesthetically pleasing interactive environment that welcomes the public while paying tribute to the dealership's position on the 156 mile mid-western waterway that connects millions of people to nature.
The critical component to the transformation of this site was the pedestrian link from the public sidewalk to the newly installed river-walk. The walkway is the first in the vicinity to allow a close-up view of the river in this area. The project intentionally situated the building to take full advantage of river views, and included an expansive green roof and a permeable paving system which is both functional and visually pleasing in the otherwise industrial environment.
The Chicago River not only acts as a wildlife sanctuary, but offers a variety of recreational opportunities, and an ever-increasing diversity of economic benefits derived from the waterfront economy. It is an attractive asset to many communities, but the pressure to develop along its banks also poses a threat to the preservation of the River's health and longevity, which is why these types of environmentally conscious development projects are so important to promote.
