Mel Brown’s adventures recall Tom Sawyer’s story. The difference between Mark Twain’s tale and his is that he lived every word of it. He was raised on a farm with no electricity until 1957. He had the greatest grandparents and Mom and Dad in the world. They stood back and let him make his mistakes–only stepping in when they must to guide him along life’s path. And, Brown adds, it was a long and winding path. His grandfather had his part in guiding him. One day he told the author of strange creatures called the Sanctamooja who lived in Lake Couer D’Alene. They only came out at night and liked to get young boys (as Brown was a young boy then) like himself. At first, he was confident that it won’t catch him, as he knew he was the best tree climber in northern Idaho, and his Grandpa retorted that Sanctamoojas were the best tree climbers in all of Idaho. Therefore he warned Brown that he wouldn’t be caught by a Sanctamooja if he stayed off the lake at night.
Well, as Mel Brown grew up, he realized that his Grandpa was merely kidding about Sanctamoojas, and Brown went on his merry way being a boy who grew up with a slew of boyhood adventures. But every so often, his hair stands on end and he looks over his shoulder to see if a Sanctamooja is behind him. It has been happening long after the author knew for a fact that there were no such animal. The Sanctamooja And Me has a remarkable atmosphere akin to campfire stories being told about mythic lore during the age of adventure. It will compel readers to remember their own grand adventures in their young lives. These stories are also the story of how Mel Brown has dodged the Sanctamooja to get to his age, well travelled and knowing for a fact that people should stay off the lake at night–because no one ever knows when a Sanctamooja will surface and mistake them for little boys.

About the Author
As you read Mel Brown’s stories, you can tell he has the ability to express what is funny. He has a gift of humor that is woven into his personality. His upbringing was kind of like Tom Sawyer, a genuine country boy always looking for an adventure. He lived near lakes and rivers and spent a lot of his time at his grandparents’ farm in Idaho, where they raised carrots to sell to markets. In this book, he has many fond memories of growing up in the good old days when “boys could be boys.” The author is blessed with a son, a daughter, a stepson, seven grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter. Mel and his wife, Linda, live in Oregon, near the coast, but they have lived in Alaska, Idaho, and Hawaii. He is still expressing his humor and is writing another book.
