Miami SEO Company, Web Phenoms, Recaps Internet Marketing in Q2 of 2013
Miami, FL (PRWEB) July 23, 2013 -- Web Phenoms forecasts and understands the changes in internet marketing and Miami SEO. Below is a list of changes and updates that occurred in Q2 in the internet marketing industry.
FaceBook Graph Search
What is it?
Graph Search is Facebook’s search engine based on an algorithm that finds information within a user's network of friends, with additional results provided by Microsoft's Bing search engine. Graph Search incorporates places, check-ins, tags, and time filters into it's algorithm. Facebook Graph Search is not yet available to all users, but is set to be introduced soon to the general public.
When Was it?
Facebook Graph Search was introduced in March of 2013.
Effect?
Personal searches such as “Organic Restaurants Nearby" will show search results accompanied by "likes" from friends. Other searches such as "photos near Miami Beach" will show geo-targeted photos of Miami Beach that are within the public network of Facebook friends.
Marketers and businesses must now optimize their Facebook profiles, brand, and business pages based on the Graph Search Algorithm. Facebook is the most used site in the world. Their addition of a relevant search engine gives businesses, marketers, companies, and brands more opportunities to be relevant in search results with the additional social proof that Facebook brings.
Penguin 2.0
What is it?
The first official Penguin update occurred on April 24th, 2012. This algorithm update was targeted at sites that participate in unnatural and illegitimate link building techniques
This year’s version of Penguin targets more of the same, but also claims to target sites that are using black hat techniques and rewards sites that create a great user experience and content. This year’s Penguin also dives deeper into analyzing link profiles. The first evolution of Penguin only analyzed links to a site’s home page. Penguin 2.0 analyzes deep interior links as well, making it harder to rank from high-level black hat SEO techniques.
When Was it?
Penguin 2.0 was announced on April 2013 and fully rolled out on May 22nd 2013
Effect
It’s estimated that about 2.1% of English search queries were impacted by Penguin 2.0. Some SEO experts theorize that Google implemented Penguin 2.0 to make it harder for large brands to rank, thus leading them to invest in paid search campaigns across Google’s advertising network.
Those practicing honest SEO and Internet Marketing shouldn’t be affect. Sites which ranked well as a result of SEO services that took shortcuts were penalized and will require significant resurrection. The best way to avoid penalties and attract customers online is to develop a holistic Internet Marketing plan. Adwords Enhanced Campaigns
What is it?
Adwords Enhanced Campaigns is an updated Adwords feature that allows campaigns to target people during specific times of day, location, and device. According to Google, “In addition to more powerful targeting and bidding options, enhanced campaigns offer smarter ads, which dynamically display device-optimized content as well as advanced reporting capabilities to help capture new conversion types.”
When Was it?
On February 6th, 2013 Google unveiled Adwords Enhanced Campaigns. On July 22nd, 2013 every Adwords account was upgraded to Enhanced Campaigns.
Effect
Adwords Enhanced Campaigns segment and target internet users at specific moments in the sales funnel. Google gives an example of a car rental company. This company can choose to show click-to-call advertisements to users searching on a mobile phone near an airport since they have high “purchase intent”. This same car rental company can show reservation ads to users searching for “car rental” on a laptop at home since the user will be in the research phase. Then, the car rental company can optimize their campaign by lowering their bids during the hours that their location is closed, so that they can apply the majority of their budget to hours when potential customers are more likely to convert.
Simply put, if businesses choose to use Adwords, they will have more opportunities to improve their click-through-rate and conversions with these hyper-targeting features.
Google Analytics Update
What is it?
Google announced changes on how Google Analytics handles their segmentation features. Google has improved their advanced segmentation to enable users to analyze subsets of your Web traffic.
Previously, advanced segments were based on visits. Now, users can create their own segments.
Cohort Analysis offers consistent analyzing of different types of users - a popular technique in the offline world. Cohort Analysis helps analyze the long-term benefit of different groups of customers, such as those who purchased within a certain timeframe.
Sequence Segments also offers an easier way to segment users depending on their actions. It makes it easier to track the sales path, such as from landing page to purchase.
For marketers with less experience in building audience segments, Segment Templates offer an out-of-the-box way to start using the new Segmentation tools for tracking web metrics. Additionally, Google has revamped the User Interface to allow ease of use in light of all the new updates.
Analytics now includes Change History, a list of user activities in Analytics by recording who did what when.
More details of the Analytics Updates are available here.
When was it?
On July 16, 2013 Google announced a new way to segment web traffic via its Advanced Segmentation.
Effect
These changes make it easier to analyze segments for new users, yet provide a more dynamic way of analyzing different user behavior for seasoned analysts and marketers.
The experienced marketer now has more options to dissect the sales path of the target audience and can quantify every stage of that sales cycle. Beginning marketers will also benefit from the relative ease of implementing these new updates.
The Q2 updates and trends listed above are extremely significant for every level of online marketing. We hope this provided you with insight on how to best optimize marketing campaigns going forward.
