Vermont Children Selected to Co-Author Book with Award-Winning Travel Journalist
Chittenden, VT (PRWEB) September 30, 2014 -- James and LeAnne LeSage of Chittenden have been selected as senior contributors to the “(Mostly) Kids’ Guide to Vermont” with well-known travel writer and photographer, Karen T. Bartlett.
James, age 10 and LeAnne, age 7 are students at the Barstow Memorial School. They are the children of Jimmy and Kathleen LeSage, owners of the New Life Hiking Spa. Both children are enthusiastic adventurers and avid photographers, and have been voraciously exploring Vermont since making it their permanent home last year. Since birth, they have lived part time in Vermont and part time in Naples, Florida, where the family met Bartlett. James and LeAnne’s photos and accomplishments have been featured in Mensa Magazine and other publications, and they both have won blue ribbons for photography at the Vermont State Fair.
Scheduled for publication in the spring of 2016, A (Mostly) Kids’ Guide to Vermont will cover the state’s broad scope of attractions, adventures and educational experiences for school-age children and their families. It will feature popular attractions and lesser known sites and adventures, as well as historic and cultural tidbits and offbeat trivia, written in Bartlett’s light and humorous style. The well-researched and intelligently written book is designed to be enjoyed by parents, grandparents and armchair travelers, and useful for educators and tourism professionals. It will be sold through bookstores, gift stores and souvenir shops.
Karen T. Bartlett has been a travel journalist covering worldwide destinations for more than a decade. She is the author and/or photographer for 10 hardcover destination travel books, including two other New England destinations, Rhode Island and Cape Cod. The first guidebook she wrote for children, “A Kid’s Guide to Chicago,” received high praise from Barnes & Noble and children’s book critics. Her second book, A (Mostly) Kids’ Guide to Naples, Marco Island and the Everglades, is scheduled for publication in January 2015.
“I was so struck by the accomplishments, curiosity and creative energy of these very bright children that my first idea was to request their feedback, along with that of other local children, on my Naples/Marco Island/Everglades book,” Bartlett said. “But when they moved full time to Vermont, I decided to get them much more involved. Vermont has so much to offer kids, from pre-kindergarten to young teens. James, LeAnne and I intend to showcase it all in A (Mostly) Kids’ Guide to Vermont!”
“I have to confess that it also gives my camera and me a great excuse to spend plenty of time in Vermont over the next 18 months,” Bartlett added.
Bartlett is a member of SATW, the Society of American Travel Writers, and ASMP, the American Society of Media Photographers. When not traveling, she’s at home in Naples, Florida. She can be found on the web at http://www.karentbartlett.com.
