Healthcare Advocacy Professionals to Offer Guidance on Palliative Care & End of Life at NAHAC National Conference Oct. 30th -Nov.1st, 2014
Chicago IL (PRWEB) October 01, 2014 -- Healthcare advocates, patient navigators, healthcare providers and caregivers will meet at the National Association of Health Advocacy Consultants (#NAHAC) fifth annual conference, “Mastering the Power and Direction of Healthcare Advocacy” (#NAHAC14) to be held October 30th - Nov. 1st, 2014 in Chicago, Illinois.
A featured session at the conference is "Finding the Words and Learning How to Have the Conversation: Palliative and End of Life Care." End-of-life conversations are some of the more difficult challenges that advocates and healthcare providers face. Knowing how to initiate a discussion of end of life wishes with patients and families leads to better choices in end of life care. The session will be delivered by professional advocates with extensive experience in sparking this conversation, who will help attendees understand how to approach their clients about it.
Presented in two parts, the session will start with Elizabeth Bailey, Patient Advocate and Author of The Patient’s Checklist, showing the documentary Palliative, which features palliative care physicians, patients, caregivers and advocates exploring the concept of this specialty in patient-centered care. The second half of the session will be Dying as a Part of Life, presented by Loretta Downs, MA, CSA, board member of Chicago End-of-Life Care Coalition and founder of Chrysalis End-of-Life Inspirations, and Jennifer Misasi, MSN, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner at Horizon Hospice.
