Rajashree Choudhury is a dynamic industry trailblazer, pioneer of yoga and celebrated name in the health and wellness field. For over 25 years, she has embraced, embodied and empowered her clients though the practice of hatha yoga with the ultimate goal of promoting a healthy mind and body.
“Emotional health or imbalance plays an enormous part in generating health or illness in a person’s life,” said Ms. Choudhury. “I believe prevention is better than a cure. Hatha yoga teaches us mindfulness in every aspect of life, body awareness and a positive attitude. Breathing techniques (pranayama) help us to find relaxation for all facets of life.”
Ms. Choudhury first fell in love with yoga while competing in professional competitions at four years old. She was the five-time champion of the National Indian Yoga Championship from 1979 to 1983.
“My grandmother also influenced me,” she said. “I observed her meditating three times a day and began to sit beside her in silence from an early age. She showed me what it meant to be a strong woman with a serene mind.”
Today, Ms. Choudhury does workshops with people in the yoga community and plans to soon branch out to the business community. She currently advocates for Bikram yoga as a wellness program to veterans, at-risk youth and women’s groups. Her goal is to promote women’s equality and empowerment within the corporate environment and the world at large.
