The National Association of Professional Women (NAPW) honors Denise Crockett as a 2015-2016 inductee into the NAPW VIP Woman of the Year Circle. She is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership in psychotherapy. With more than 700,000 members and over 200 operating Local Chapters, NAPW is the nation’s leading networking organization exclusively for professional women.

“I’m pleased to present Denise with this important honor,” said NAPW President Star Jones. “Her knowledge and experience in mental healthcare are valuable assets to her clients and community.”

Inspired at a young age by her grandmother and mother to help the voiceless individuals in surrounding communities, Denise Crockett is a Certified Trauma Specialist, Licensed Professional Counselor and Capacity Assessor. She has been counseling for nine years and has a private practice, Crockett Therapy and Trauma. Her key responsibilities include assessment and treatment of depression, anxiety, PTSD and Complex PTSD. In addition, Ms. Crockett does competency assessments.

Being able to help clients open up about the pain and suffering they have avoided talking about is Ms. Crockett’s biggest challenge. It varies from childhood trauma to present difficulties, but after trust and hard work, she is rewarded when clients are able to talk about their traumas without being emotionally attached so they can have the fulfilling life they deserve.

Upon her mother passing last year, Ms. Crockett created Purple Promise, a tax-exempt nonprofit organization, in her memory as well as her grandmother’s. It provides free mental care services for adults. Housed in the Carolina Care Works Center, it includes many nonprofits for the neighboring five counties in upstate South Carolina. Ms. Crockett continues to work tirelessely to and educate herself and create the best therapeutic practices for her clients.

Awards & Accomplishments: Ph.D., University of Georgia, Science Education
