NAPW Greensboro, NC Chapter Learned How to Plan for the Future with Help from Financial Consultant at August Meeting
Garden City, NY (PRWEB) August 27, 2013 -- Members and guests of the NAPW Greensboro, NC Local Chapter gathered on August 13th for a [professional networking event at Noregon Systems located at 7009 Albert Pick Road in Greensboro.
The group of professional women learned valuable tips from Financial Consultant and Greensboro Local Chapter member Ruth Petty when she delivered her presentation, “Women and Finances.”
Teresa Bailey, Greensboro Chapter President, got the networking meeting started by warmly welcoming members and guests. She invited attendees to participate in a networking exercise.
“Members and guests went around the room in a round-robin format and introduced themselves to one another,” said President Bailey. “It was a wonderful way for everyone to get to know one another.”
The evening’s guest speaker, Financial Consultant and Chapter member Ruth Petty, took the floor next. She began her presentation with the questions, “Are you ready to live to 100?”
“Ms. Petty talked about how women now make up the majority of small business owners, as well as the majority of law school and medical school students,” said the Chapter President. “This is vastly different from what many of the baby boomer generation experienced.”
The financial consultant emphasized how important it is to have a plan for the future, which includes finances. She encouraged members and guests to have a plan, set goals and make them attainable.
Ms. Petty advised the women to participate in their company’s 401k plan. She reminded those who are self-employed that there are plans similar to a 401k that provides savings for the future as well.
“She reminded the group that if someone other than themselves handles the household finances, it is important to know where the money is. Take time to learn and educate yourself, she advised,” said President Bailey.
Also addressed in the presentation were the dynamics of the family unit and how they have changed; adult children are living at home longer, or returning home after going away to school. Many adults in the “sandwich generation” are also caring for elderly parents.
“When planning your finances, know what is important to you, what is your purpose in life, what is your goal,” said Ms. Petty.
At the conclusion of her presentation, the guest speaker provided members with some financial planning resources.
The group of professional women also discussed topics and themes, for future Greensboro Chapter meetings.
Guest Pam Hillerby recommended a “speed networking“ theme, based on the premise of “speed dating,” providing members an opportunity to learn more about one another, in a one-on-one format.
Member Kathy Frazier offered to help plan the meeting and member Sandra Angel offered to research other venues for future meetings.
The next Greensboro Chapter meeting will be held on September 10th.
