ACO Thought Leader to Address How Disruptive Innovation is Changing Coordinated Care in Dallas
Cranbury, NJ (PRWEB) November 05, 2014 -- The 7th Annual NJHIMSS/DVHIMSS Conference will feature Dr. James Walton, CEO of Genesis Accountable Physician Network (GAPN), who will present “Genesis: Pushing the Boundaries of Accountable Care.” The presentation, slated for Thursday, November 13 at 3:30 pm EDT, will be co-presented with Sandra Selzer, MSHQ, Vice President of Product Management for BluePrint Healthcare IT.
Dr. Walton leads a Dallas-based independent physicians association of 1,400 member physicians, which has a thriving ACO component supporting more than 250 specialists and primary care quality-focused physicians. He will explore GAPN’s experience in implementing disruptive innovation strategies — both people- and technology-based — on the road to delivering more coordinated care.
Attendees will hear Dr. Walton and Ms. Selzer share specifics around these strategies and the technology supporting them in a risk-based, team-based care coordination model that is helping GAPN meet the triple aim of better care delivery, improved health for vulnerable populations and lower costs per patient.
Lastly, Dr. Walton will reveal how his ACO is using technology to educate and engage physicians in what has become their new role as “practitioners” in performance-based care.
Ms. Selzer highlights why the topic is so timely. “Genesis is doing something different as part of their care coordination. This presentation will show how they use human and technology resources, uniquely, to mitigate non-clinical barriers to care coordination success; communicate and collaborate with the entire care team beyond the four walls of healthcare; as well as demonstrate how they engage their physicians, patients and family caregivers towards true team-based care.”
“As physicians,” Dr. Walton says, “we see expectations of increasing performance while experiencing losses in income and autonomy as threats to our independence.” Dr. Walton will share his perspectives as a physician, healthcare leader and ACO executive on the role technological innovation plays as a disruptive force of positive change. Walton adds, “As healthcare leaders, we are in the midst of a shift to value-based contracting while experiencing time and financial pressures to execute rapidly in the transformation of care delivery. And, as ACO executives, we are under pressure to gain infrastructure maturity to address the increasing need for coordination of health care across the continuum. I believe all three of these issues can be addressed through technology that engages physicians, patients and care teams around a common aim. And, this technology must be simple, convenient, reliable, and bring return on the investment.”
As part of the workshop, Dr. Walton and Ms. Selzer will touch on the specifics around the software platform that supports GAPN’s care coordination model, called Care Navigator™. “From physician and care coordinator to patient and family caregiver, each care team member has special needs that Genesis is addressing in strategic and powerful ways,” said Ms. Selzer.
The 7th Annual NJHIMSS/DVHIMSS Conference is slated for November 12-14, 2014 at Bally’s Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, NJ. Registration can be found at http://www.njhimss.org.
