New York Construction Accident Lawyer David Perecman Weighs in on Fatal Wall Collapse in Upstate New York, One Worker Died
New York, New York (PRWEB) December 12, 2013 -- A construction worker was killed when a retaining wall collapsed at a construction site in Maybrook, New York, according to [The Wall Street Journal (12.4.13). David Perecman, founder of The Perecman Firm, understands that concrete walls are dangerous to construct and many safety precautions need to be taken.
“When concrete walls are under construction, the temporary walls must be adequately braced during the erection process because of the tremendous weight of the wall. Serious injuries and death can occur when the supportive shoring is not up to par,” said Perecman.
Concrete was being poured on the construction site when the wood and concrete retaining wall collapsed. Timothy Lang, 53, was killed in the Hudson Valley accident. The two workers he was working with were hospitalized, said The Wall Street Journal.
Lang died while constructing a replica of the New York City Department of Environmental Protection's Catskill Aqueduct, which brings drinking water south to New York City. The replica was being built so workers could practice concrete work before beginning on the planned interconnection of the Catskill and Delaware aqueducts in Ulster County, The Wall Street Journal reported.
“Construction is one of the most deadly industries for New York workers and worker safety must be a top priority,” said Perecman, a construction accident lawyer in New York for over 30 years. New York's construction workers deserve safe jobsites. They have families expecting them to come home every day.”
"OSHA will look into the death of the construction worker and the injury of the other workers to determine whether or not they were the result of any violations of workplace safety standards," said Perecman added. “Understanding what happened can prevent a tragedy like this from happening again.”
