New York Personal Injury Lawyer David Perecman Weighs in on Cirque du Soleil Performer’s Death
New York, New York (PRWEB) July 02, 2013 -- For the first time in the French-Canadian troupe’s 30-year history, a performer died during a Cirque du Soleil show. She was performing in the Las Vegas show “Ka”. The performer, 31-year-old Sarah “Sassoon” Guyard-Guillot, is believed to be the victim of a failed safety line or other safety apparatus, reported [Variety, the entertainment trade publication (6.30.13). Even the most talented circus performer can have their career cut short by a split second tragedy, said New York personal injury lawyer David Perecman.
“This was a terrible workplace tragedy,” Perecman said. “Safety must always be the first priority.”
The accident occurred during the show’s climactic Final Battle sequence in which performers are suspended up to 50 feet in the air, said Variety. Guyard-Guillot had more than 20-years experience as an acrobatic performer and had been in the cast of “Ka” since production began in 2006. She was the mom of two young children.
“They owe the other performers a very thorough accident investigation,” said Perecman. “These artists are pursuing incredibly risky work and deserve reassurance that everything that can be done has been done to prevent this type of accident from happening again. Confidence is key to their performance.”
The show was canceled indefinitely. If Guyard-Guillot's death resulted from organizers’ gross negligence or unsafe work conditions like faulty equipment, her family may have grounds for a wrongful death lawsuit.
