Personal Injury Lawyer David Perecman Weighs in on Parasailing Accident, Calls for More Regulation of Parasailing Industry
New York, NY (PRWEB) July 11, 2013 -- An online fundraiser has raised nearly $5000 to defray the medical costs of two teenage girls, Alexis Fairchild and Sidney Good, who were seriously injured while parasailing in Panama Beach, Fla. A parasail containing the two teens had broken loose from a boat and slammed them into the side of a nearby building, reported ABC News (7.3.13). Personal injury lawyer David Perecman calls for more regulation of the parasailing industry.
“It’s time to set higher safety standards for this activity,” said David Perecman, founder of The Perecman Firm, one of New York’s personal injury law firms.
According to ABC News, the parasailing industry has “very little regulation.” In the state of Florida there have been 33 parasailing incidents with six fatalities since 1998. New York also offers parasailing opportunities.
Powerful winds caused the women to hit power lines and several cars in a parking lot, in addition to the building, said ABC News. The two women were found under vehicles in a parking lot, limp and unresponsive.
“Parasailing operators need to take passenger safety seriously. Fear of a lawsuit can be a powerful motivator for companies to set and comply with adequate safety regulations,” Perecman said. “A lawsuit will likely be filed by the families of the two women.”
“Hopefully the seriousness of this accident will motivate local legislatures to regulate the parasailing industry before others are hurt,” he added. “I also hope the two women get the maximum compensation they deserve, enough to help these victims cover their medical expenses.”
