Inspirational Speaker Eric Ross Talks to Narconon Freedom Center Students
Albion, MI (PRWEB) July 12, 2013 -- Narconon Freedom Center, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program, welcomed guest speaker Eric Ross last week in honor of July 4th. Ross, who delivers inspirational talks to recovering addicts in his free time, spoke to students of the program about ways to spend their time after completion the program encouraging them to get involved in community outreach programs where they live. He believes giving back to the community helps one maintain sobriety and stay free of drugs.
Ross showed students how to find and choose positive activities within any community that could be enjoyable and rewarding in a positive way. Some of the activities include working with others trying to recover from drug abuse, youth programs, drug prevention, city beautification projects, arts and music programs, city sports teams, bike rides, and marathons and more.
“I have been told many times that sharing my story has helped others who are working to regain control of their lives. I let them know that drugs are not the only option one has to cope with life’s ups and downs, and that there are other ways to fill their time and be productive such as helping others within the community,” says Ross.
During a group participation portion of the presentation, students new to the program were able to interact with students further along in the program. This demonstrated that it is possible to get through drug withdrawal holistically and with minimal discomfort which is the first part of the program. As well, these new students saw that the brutal cravings for drugs could stop, that recovery and going home to help their communities to be productive is possible.
“I feel the most important part of Ross’ speech was when he elicited group participation from students to discuss ways they could help combat drug addiction and clean up the community where they live once they completed the Narconon program,” said Brian Kuehne, Executive Director, Narconon Freedom Center. “We want students to feel positive about their recovery and the condition of their improving lives.”
Students in the audience gave favorable reviews about Ross’s talk saying they were excitement about continuing their journey to sobriety. Many said they were also motivated to get involved in their community after completing their program and had hope that they could make a difference.
