Narconon Freedom Center Michigan Names New Drug Education Officer
Albion, MI (PRWEB) August 08, 2013 -- Narconon Freedom Center, an alcohol and drug rehabilitation center, welcomes Honalee Johnson to the position of drug education officer. Ms. Johnson and her team of drug education lecturers travel to schools in Michigan and the surrounding states delivering the popular and highly effective Narconon Drug Education talks.
The drug prevention education program is designed to provide young people with the true and correct educational materials about drugs so they can make up their own minds to stay away from them.
After the talks, students fill out surveys regarding what they learned. Here are a few responses from ninth graders: “I learned that you don’t have to do Xtasy for a long time to OD.” “It can help me stay away from drugs now that I know all that consequences.” “My thoughts changed after watching the video. I never want to do X again or let any of my friends do it either.”
An independent study of the Narconon Drug Education Program conducted by FASE (Foundation for Advancements in Science and Education) in Los Angeles concluded: "Changes in those who had indicated that they might use drugs were quite pronounced. Responses clearly indicated a heightened awareness of the adverse effects caused by drug abuse. Comments indicating that they would now never use drugs were common."
Ms. Johnson comes to the position with the Hospitality Industry. “I have worked with people from all walks of life and many have needed help. I have witnessed the Narconon Program help friends and family members successfully recover from their struggles with drug addiction. I made this career change to help others. Delivering drug prevention education talks to children on the truth about drugs is a great way to start and I’m excited about my new position,” says Johnson.
The vital need for drug prevention education is shown by the 2012 annual “Monitoring the Future” (MTF) survey, which was conducted by the University of Michigan in classrooms with almost 46,000 students as respondents.
The survey showed that marijuana use among 8th, 10th and 12th graders has continued to rise in 2012. The persistent rise in the use of this drug may be due to the drop in the perception among young people that this drug is harmful. The survey on the perception of "weed" showed that only 41.7 percent of eight graders see it as harmful.
