Entry consoles, the long, often decorative tables that often run along the wall in entry rooms, are an incredibly important yet rarely discussed element of home décor.

According to the author of an article published August 26th by the Hartford Courant, one of the most important yet often overlooked rooms in the home when it comes to interior design is the entry foyer. The article notes that, while most discussion of design and renovation focuses on rooms that tend to get the most traffic – including the kitchen, living room, or bedroom – the entry foyer typically creates the first impression that a guest has of a person’s home. Kayvan Nahai, the President and head designer at Los Angeles design showroom and Italian furniture store Naurelle, notes that this is an incredibly astute viewpoint that highlights a very important aspect of home décor. While Naurelle specializes in interior design for the entire home, he lists three specific elements that can be incorporated into the entry foyer to give guests the impression of beauty and elegance the moment they enter:

  • Consoles – Entry consoles, the long, often decorative tables that often run along the wall in entry rooms, are an incredibly important yet rarely discussed element of home décor. Mr. Nahai notes that, while the ability for a single piece to blend into a room is often a trait of successful design, these consoles can be truly breathtaking pieces. Mr. Nahai also notes that some homeowners or designers desiring increased functionality out of this piece often opt for a credenza containing a small amount of storage space for everyday items.
  • Mirrors – In addition to being decorative pieces of art with frames that can dazzle and amaze, a mirror in the entryway also does wonders in terms of opening up the appearance of a room. Especially in small or narrow entryways, Mr. Nahai explains, a well-placed mirror can eliminate any feelings of constriction or claustrophobia that visitors may have while entering a home.
  • Chandeliers – While the mirror is a great way to open up the room, a chandelier is often a superb way to brighten up a space without the need for bulky floor lamps. Just like the consoles and mirrors, these chandeliers have multiple purposes, both as a functional element and as a beautiful artistic centerpiece in a person’s home. Mr. Nahai notes that chandeliers are just one of the many lighting options available to Naurelle customers; however they are often the most sought after for entryways.
