Don’t Put Your Job Search on Hold This Holiday Season

One of the most common mistakes job seekers make during the holiday season is abandoning their search. Naviga Business Services offers three tips to keep job seekers on task.

Tampa, Fla. (PRWEB) December 13, 2013

One of the most common mistakes job seekers make during the holiday season is abandoning their search, according to national sales and marketing recruitment firm, Naviga Business Services.

“The holidays are a great opportunity to perfect your résumé and step up your efforts,” Naviga President Kevin Steffey said. “Don’t assume employers are taking time off from the hiring process. In fact, many are working now to ensure their companies are fully staffed with quality employees at the beginning of the New Year.”

Use a Company’s Holiday Downtime to Your Advantage

Generally executives do not take extended time off during the holidays. So by attempting to contact companies during this time of the year, job seekers have a better chance of connecting directing with the decision maker.

“Executives will use this time to work on projects they've put aside or begin planning for the upcoming year, meetings, etc.,” Naviga Client Relations Manager Caroline Boker said. “Since it's generally 'downtime' for the company, it's actually one of the best times to reach a hiring manager.”

‘Tis the Season to be Top of Mind

This time of year is a good time to reach out to old contacts to wish them happy holidays and turn it into a networking opportunity. Update your contact list and work to keep your name at the top of more people’s lists when January comes around. Holiday parties also offer places to get insight into your job search and expand your contacts. But remember not to come on too strong and to be careful mixing social settings with business goals.

Keep Your Job Search Spirit Up

Even though this time of year can get busy with shopping and parties, finding a way to keep your job search spirit strong will be a benefit once the New Year comes. Keep focused on your goals by meeting with a career coach, or practicing your interviewing skills.

“Stay one step ahead of the competition by keeping your job seeking momentum up while others are slowing theirs down,” Steffey said.
