Doctors Say Affordable Care Act Will Negatively Impact Patients and Practice
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) November 22, 2013 -- Sixty-one percent of physicians said their opinion of the Affordable Care Act has changed for the worse, according to a national survey conducted last week by Jackson & Coker, a subsidiary of Jackson Healthcare, the nation’s third largest healthcare staffing company.
Driving this shift in opinion is physicians’ belief that their decision-making ability, workload and compensation will be negatively impacted. They believe their patients’ access to healthcare, physician choice and quality of care will be negatively impacted, as well.
“The more knowledgeable physicians report being about the ACA, the more pessimistic and concerned they are,” said Sandra Garrett, president of Jackson & Coker.
The areas physicians said would be negatively impacted include:
• Compensation (71 percent)
• Workload (61 percent)
• Quality of patient care (60 percent)
• Decision-making ability (57 percent)
• Patient access to healthcare (51 percent)
Thirty-two percent of physicians believe they will gain patients when the ACA is implemented. Twelve percent said they expect to lose patients. Sixty-nine percent expect their revenue per patient to decrease. Sixty-six percent said they will spend more time on non-clinical, non-patient, administrative activities.
