March is the month of madness, brackets, cheering and gambling on collegiate basketball teams. But what about OMA Madness? POPAI has a championship for impressive teams comprised of brands, producers, and agencies competing for the prestigious OMA Awards. This year's annual championship for the at-retail marketing industry will be held at GlobalShop in Las Vegas, Nevada, March 18-20, 2014.
Unfamiliar with OMA? It is POPAI's annual Outstanding Merchandising Achievement Awards Contest. It is the premier award show for recognizing the most innovative and effective in-store and at-retail displays. For over 50 years, entries of displays that lift sales, make products memorable, and entice consumers to purchase have competed for gold, silver and bronze honors. This year, POPAI is hosting the event during GlobalShop at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.
“Each year the OMA Awards Competition receives a myriad of entries from around the world. They're all impressively creative and evolve the marketing at retail medium," says Richard Winter, POPAI President. "Winning an OMA is a great way for an organization to establish themselves and communicate its understanding of the power and effectiveness of marketing at retail to others.”
There are 27 categories displays can be entered in, and all are eligible for the Creative Award, the Budget Award and the Display of the Year Award. Each category is judged by a team of independent, marketing at retail professionals who go through two phases of judging; one online and one on the OMA Show floor during GlobalShop. The judges then determine the winners by the case history responses and overall appearance/appeal.
