New Panopta Study Finds 26 Percent of Top Retail Websites Failed to Maintain Availability Leading Up to Holiday Shopping Season
Chicago, Ill (PRWEB) November 26, 2013 -- Panopta (http://www.panopta.com), a global website and application availability monitoring service provider, today released a new report detailing the findings of a multi-year analysis of 132 top retail websites. Panopta examined the performance of these websites during both the non-holiday and holiday shopping season, holding websites to the 99.9 percent uptime standard established by website hosting providers to determine a grade of pass or fail. Among the most significant findings, 26 percent of websites received a failing grade in 2013 which could have a major impact on their revenue during the holiday shopping season.
Other key findings from the report include:
• The number of sites that received a failing grade in the non-holiday season decreased 35 percent from 2012 (46) to 2013 (30)
• The number of sites that received a failing grade in the holiday season decreased 19 percent from 2011 (37) to 2012 (30)
• The total minutes of downtime for all 132 sites in the holiday season decreased 13 percent from 2011 (81.20 minutes) to 2012 (70.36 minutes)
“As more and more consumers turn to online shopping for holiday deals, it becomes increasingly important for retailers to ensure their websites are available at all times. Even a brief outage could have a major financial impact,” said Jason Abate, founder and CEO of Panopta. “Similarly, consumers rely on websites for price comparisons and reviews before buying products in stores; so these outages could be preventing internet-assisted sales in brick and mortar locations.”
Sites who received a failing grade and were deemed to be vulnerable to major outages during the holiday shopping season include Abercrombie, Ann Taylor, Ann Taylor Loft, Banana Republic, Bass Pro Shops, Backcountry, Blockbuster, Brookstone, CB2, CDW, The Container Store, Crutchfield, Fossil, GameFly, Hammacher Schlemmer, J&R, Jo-Ann Fabrics, LEGO, Neiman Marcus, Office Depot, Old Navy, On Sale, Petco, Pixmania, Red Envelope, Sephora, Threadless, Victoria’s Secret, Wet Seal and Yoox.
