Patricia A. Richardson Shares the True Meaning of Christmas Beyond Giving and Sharing

Giving food to Malachi O’Byrne’s needy neighbors; sending greetings to their friends; giving thanks for their Christmas dinner and for everything God had given them. However, they found that Christmas this year would be different.
“When Christmas Came to Kilcarrig” written by author Patricia A. Richardson is an endearing picture book that tells the story of Malachi O’ Byrne who, together with his fellow leprechaun friends, likes to spend Christmas by giving to the poor. Malachi O’ Byrne told his friends that there were five families in the village of Kilcarrig in County Wexford, Ireland who had a rather bad year and would be without much for Christmas. A decision was made among them. On Christmas Eve, they sent food baskets to Father Lalor to be delivered to the needy families.
After the leprechauns delivered the food baskets to Father Lalor, they made their way back to Malachi
O’ Byrne’s cottage and stayed at home for a rest before Midnight Mass. By 10:30 p.m. Michael O’Hara, Colas Carroll, John and Jim Curran as well as Dermot O’Malley had returned to the cottage of Malachi O’Byrne. With lanterns in hand, they left the cottage and made their way through the woods to the church. As the Mass proceeds, they soon realize that Christmas is not only for the leprechauns, their neighbors or friends as they find its true meaning through the Christ Child in the crib.
