Attorney Mark Waecker Discusses Pauley Perrette Assault and Tips to Avoid Attack
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) November 19, 2015 -- “Incidents like these, where Ms. Perrette was attacked while walking across the street to a new guest house she bought, are very unfortunate, terrifying and life-changing, but can be avoided,” said Waecker. “There are some universal suggestions and tools that are especially effective for women to utilize, such as wearing bright clothing, carrying a flashlight, always having a communication device on hand like a cellphone and carrying pepper spray.”
According to the ABC News article, Perrette stated she “almost died” after being jumped by a homeless man who punched her in the nose and forehead while repeatedly stating he was going to kill her. Waecker, who often represents both victims of violent crimes and perpetrators, added that there never seem to be boundaries in place that are associated with these events, and even if you are in familiar surroundings, nighttime and/or dark areas are never your friend.
“Before even leaving the house at night, it is highly recommended that all cell phones be programmed with a direct dial to 911,” said Waecker. “Another effective measure if you are walking in the evening is to activate your cell phone’s camera so that it can be directed toward the danger immediately, and any evidence can be captured and preserved.”
Although police response is ordinarily not as fast as perhaps a neighbor or a person in the immediate area, whistles and other noise-making devices can also be helpful in calling people to help and in scaring off a would-be perpetrator. “While more is always better than less, these minimal suggestions should become a lifestyle mode for women, even in familiar surroundings, when darkness approaches,” said Waecker. “Preparation is often the key to a safe outcome.”
