Russell Peck Helping Households and Businesses Think Globally, Act Locally
Braintree, MA (PRWEB) April 11, 2017 -- The investment for the average family to convert a home to solar energy is $20,000-$25,000, but can reduce the electricity bill by 30% and provide up to 20% in tax credits. “The average family/household should not purchase more than 20-25 solar panels, depending on the square footage of the house,” said Russell Peck, owner of Peck Funeral Homes, which, since converting to solar power, has helped balance the business’ budget with the rising cost of funerals and energy. “Solar panels can also be leased.”
For households and businesses considering converting to solar power, Peck lists the following three tips:
No. 1: Get graphs on wattage. “Always ask the salesman or solar company for graphs on wattage to decide which efficiency is best for your household,” stressed Peck. “The higher the wattage, the higher the efficiency and cost.”
No. 2: Seek out a structural engineer. For those concerned that their roof or rafters cannot hold solar panels, it is advisable to seek out a structural engineer, who is usually available through the solar company. “Sometimes they can reinforce a house’s rafters at little additional cost,” added Peck. “Rest assured, though, that solar panels will prevent snow from accumulating on the roof and can endure strong storms and even hurricanes. Solar panels can actually protect a roof, adding ten years to its life because the radiation of the sun is no longer directly hitting the roof, but rather the panels.”
No. 3: View solar energy as a long-term investment that also helps the environment. “Today’s solar panels are unlike those of the ‘70s and ‘80s that were used to heat water, causing leaks and water damage. Modern solar panels use the sun’s energy to generate electricity, which powers the heater pumps and the ignition electricity,” concluded Peck. “By using solar panels you help reduce the carbon footprint and create less energy waste, thus impacting your local community and the globe for the better.”
