Peggy L. Watson’s New Book Aims to Help Loved Ones of Addicts
MCMINNVILLE, Tenn. (PRWEB) October 28, 2014 -- Author Peggy L. Watson knows all too well the damaging effects addiction can have on a person, as well as a household. When she found out her husband was addicted to crack cocaine, she decided it was time to take matters into her own hands, at which point she began studying addiction’s effects on brain chemistry.
Watson’s husband has since managed to win his battle with addiction, a battle he fights every day. Watson was so moved by her experience with her husband that she decided it was time to help others struggling with addiction through her new book, “Hosea House: An Overcomer’s Guide When Someone You Love is an Addict” (published by CrossBooks).
“Unknown numbers of people are abusing prescription painkillers,” Watson says. “Whether the addiction is to legal or illegal drugs, alcohol, gambling, or pornography, the destruction to the loved ones is largely the same.”
In “Hosea House,” Watson discusses the biblical story of Hosea and Gomer. Hosea was instructed to marry Gomer, a prostitute. Following their marriage, Hosea learned that Gomer was unfaithful and had become enslaved; yet Hosea never stopped loving Gomer. In the end, Hosea makes many sacrifices to redeem Gomer from slavery.
In her book, Watson equates the loved ones of addicts to Hosea and the addicts to Gomer. She then breaks down her book into two parts, helping readers understand and love the addict in part one, and helping the addict piece their life back together in part two.
Watson hopes her book will be useful to families struggling with addiction and that the biblical context will make it useful to pastors and leaders who are dealing with church members who have addiction issues in their families.
