Latest Per Wickstrom Blog Post Offers 10 Tips for Concerned Parents Regarding Teen Drug Use
(PRWEB) February 05, 2015 -- Parents who are concerned about possible or actual drug use by their teenaged children should head to http://www.PerWickstrom.com and check out the new must-read blog post from Per Wickstrom entitled “Keeping Our Youth Sober: 10 Tips for Concerned Parents.”
“No matter how progressive or forward-thinking some of today’s parents might be, the fact is that the drug landscape today is categorically and fundamentally more dangerous than it was even a decade or two ago when the government was declaring its ill-fated war on drugs,” commented Per Wickstrom. “And so I urge all parents to read my new blog post so they can be part of the solution if and when their children begin heading down a path that almost always ends very badly; and sometimes, tragically.”
According to Per Wickstrom’s new blog, parents should consider the following:
1. Become media aware and understand that today’s teenagers are bombarded with images and messaging that glorifies drug experimentation, use and abuse.
2. Help their teenager understand that freedom and responsibility are not opposites; they work together. Without the latter, teenagers simply cannot have the former.
3. Educate their teenager on the dangers of drug use by using facts that are available on a number of credible websites.
4. Understand that their teenager is under an immense amount of peer pressure.
5. Grasp that today’s drug landscape is overflowing with prescription drugs, meth, and other substances that some parents don’t understand – but need to in order to have an intelligent discussion with their teenager.
6. Find ways to keep their teenager engaged and invested in a healthy, rewarding activity.
7. Work with teenagers to help them solve their problems, without judging them; problems that may seem superficial or unimportant to an adult can be extremely important to a teen.
8. Empower their teenager through education and discussion to help them handle peer pressure.
9. Encourage their teenager to get out of their room -- and away from their gadgets – so they can connect with the community.
10. Look within and see if strengthening the family unit is necessary in order to give their teenager the support they need to stay away from drugs and alcohol.
