If these role models aren’t available in one’s family or social circle, there are many exceptional people – past and present – worthy of respect in the world of sports, medicine, community involvement, and yes, believe it or not, even politics!
  • Establish goals and have a clear sense of purpose. People who successfully manage the uncertainty of stress may not always know how they are getting from A to Z, but they absolutely know why. This awareness may seem optional, but it makes all of the difference; especially when life throws one of its inevitable curve balls, and a pivot in the plan is required.
  • Keep an eye on health and well being. Many people focus on their thoughts and feelings, yet neglect the basic needs of their body that include a healthy diet, enough sleep, appropriate levels of exercise, and the right balance between work, play and rest.
  • Join a group of supportive, like-minded people who can offer tips and advice on how to manage the uncertainty of stress, and other key aspects of living a successful life on all levels: spiritually, personally, professionally, with family, friends, in the community and as citizens.

“With all of this being said, I can’t stress enough – no pun intended! – how important it is for people to believe in themselves,” added Per Wickstrom. “This doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t listen to others, or be willing to accept new, better advice on everything from how to run their business, to how they should spend quality time with friends and family, and so on.
